Previous Positions and Companies: Sonya Avery serves as Sr. VP of Strategic Advisory Services with medSR. Ms. Avery works with health care providers on the planning, selection, and implementation of information systems, as she assists medSR's Information Systems Management Partnerships clients. She has a broad experience in the health care information systems industry and has demonstrated expertise in project management, overall IS departmental management, IS-related regulatory compliance, and Health Information Exchanges. She also has served as CIO for one of medSR’s most progressive clients, a 500-bed health system.

Prior to medSR, Ms. Avery served as CIO of a 180-bed community hospital in Louisiana. She also worked as IT manager for a 350-bed community hospital in Central Illinois. In these capacities, she conducted systems selections and implementations, developed long-range information systems plans, prepared budgets, implemented standards, and trained hospital staff. Ms. Avery's 25 years of health care information systems experience also includes hands-on disaster recovery experience when one of the facilities she served met the demands of Hurricane Katrina. 

In addition to Information Services, Ms. Avery has also managed Health Information Management, Transcription, Coding, Physician Services, Education and Development, Risk Management, and Hospital Employed Physician Practices.

Recipient of Computer World Magazine's Top 100 Premier IT Leaders in 2013, Ms. Avery has also served as a mentor to up-and-coming information technology leaders throughout the U.S.


How does your work here contribute to the Redeemer Health mission to care, comfort and heal?
Providing secure, reliable health information systems is my contribution to the Redeemer Health mission to care, comfort, and heal. These systems aide caregivers in providing effective and compassionate care to members of our community.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. I enjoy vegetable gardening, reading, playing the piano, and spending time with family and friends. My husband and I own several classic cars and love having a relaxing drive on a Sunday afternoon. 

What would you like to share about your family and pets? 
My husband Mike and I enjoy spending time with our blended family, especially our grandchildren. We have four dogs: Little Bit, Molly, Lettie, and Kirby.
