Malini Iyer, MD

Dr. Malini Iyer is an accomplished surgeon who specializes in breast oncology and breast surgery. She has dedicated her career to the management of diseases of the breast with a special focus on the treatment of breast cancer.

Dr. Iyer provides expert care to patients with both benign and malignant breast conditions, ranging from initial diagnosis to surgical treatment and including breast cancer genetic screening and risk management.

She performs breast screening exams, risk evaluations, biopsy for early cancer diagnosis, stereotactic biopsy, diagnostic evaluations, and surgery, when warranted, for breast cancer and other surgical conditions. She offers consultation on a wide variety of breast conditions including breast pain, breast infections, benign breast masses, abnormal screening studies, and breast cancer. She also offers high-risk cancer screening and surveillance, which includes careful analysis of family history, breast and imaging studies, and recommendations for risk reduction and treatment.

Dr. Iyer’s success in breast surgical oncology is built on three decades of experience in teaching hospitals, research facilities, and private practice. Her compassion and knowledge have earned her top honors in the medical field and her empathy and commitment have earned her the respect of her peers and patients.

Dr. Iyer earned her medical degree and Master of Surgery degree at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, in New Delhi, India. She completed her surgical residency at the University of Connecticut, where she was selected by the Association of Women Surgeons as a finalist for Outstanding Woman Resident of the year. She completed a surgical oncology research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and a breast oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center.

Dr. Iyer has also trained in England, where she was awarded a Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, U.K. She is a board-certified surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

She is the recipient of numerous awards for surgical teaching and research and has been voted a “Top Doc” (2013-17, 2019) and a “Top Doc for Women” (2015) by South Jersey Magazine. She is fluent in English and Hindi.

Dr. Iyer attributes her fascination and dedication in medicine to the inspirational work of pioneers such as Dr. Jonas Salk. She was drawn to surgery by its logical and practical application of the tenets of medicine and feels that surgical practice enables her to make a tangible, immediate, and positive difference in people’s lives. As a breast surgeon, she feels fortunate to connect with so many women who inspire her through their strength and resilience.

Outside of her practice, Dr. Iyer is an avid traveler, having lived in India, England, Africa, the Middle East and the United States. At home, she enjoys gardening, and spending time with her husband, three adult daughters, and their golden retriever.
